DEDICATED MARINE WIFE AND MOTHER SELECTED TO RECEIVE EXTREME MILITARY MAKEOVER
Husband served in Iraq while she cared for special needs son and other children.
SAN DIEGO - An Oceanside military wife and mother has been chosen by Partners in Beauty, a network of the area's finest beauty and health professionals, to receive the first ever Extreme Military Makeover. Lori Brown, 31, will receive a variety of services, valued at more than $45,000.
Having given the ultimate sacrifice, supporting her husband, an enlisted Marine for ten years, and caring for her children, including a son suffering from cerebral palsy and epilepsy, Brown is being given the gift to finally care for herself. She will undergo cosmetic surgery by Dennis Bucko, M.D., including breast augmentation, abdominoplasty, liposuction, and facial rejuvenation procedures. Dr. Michael Gordon of Gordon Binder Vision Institute will perform Custom Lasik with Intralase. Drs. Gray and Williams will provide a total smile makeover including porcelain veneers and power whitening. And Brown will receive hair, makeup, fitness and nutrition, and wardrobe consultations by San Diego's leading professionals.
Brown has dealt with the stresses of raising three children, supporting her husband through several deployments, coping with the financial hardships so familiar to military families, and caring for her son. All the while, she has taken it upon herself to become an advocate for other special needs families in the military. She often speaks to influential members of the military, government and healthcare communities in hopes of securing better care and support for military families with ill or challenged children.
Brown's 4-year-old son, Hunter was diagnosed with cerebral palsy and epilepsy after his traumatic birth. She calls him her miracle child because he has done everything doctors predicted he would never do, including surviving a near-fatal seizure while her husband was serving in Iraq. She credits NAME with giving her the confidence to become an activist.
"He is my inspiration," Brown said. "I am an outgoing person because of him, but I am aging so fast from all the stress in my life. I feel young, I just don't look young. The Extreme Military Makeover is an incredible opportunity for me to feel better about myself - to look better and be more confident when meeting with politicians as I try to convince them to make the changes required by special needs families in the military."
Brown's makeover procedures will begin in mid-November. The amazing results will be revealed at Partners in Beauty's first annual charity event in January, Resolutions 2005, at Saks Fifth Avenue in Fashion Valley.
