Resolutions... 2005 and So Alive
Local Health and Beauty Club sponsors Extreme Military Makeovers giving back to local military families.
SAN DIEGO – Saks Fifth Avenue in Fashion Valley was the center of excitement Wednesday, January 26, as the recipients of the first-ever Extreme Military Makeovers were revealed to an awe-struck audience at Resolutions 2005, a charity benefit for Operation Homefront. Military moms Lori Brown (photo - left), age 31 of Camp Pendleton and Laura Silver(photo - right), age 41 of Chula Vista were transformed by over $45,000 worth of services donated by the experts of Partners in Beauty, an organization of San Diego’s finest health and beauty professionals which assists members in being their best.
The two women were selected from a group of more than three hundred applicants, all of which were either active military members or spouses. Brown is the wife of an enlisted Marine of ten years and mother of three small children, including a son suffering from cerebral palsy and epilepsy. She often speaks to influential members of the military, government and healthcare communities in hopes of securing better care and support for military families with ill or challenged children. Silver, mother of a teen-aged daughter, has personally served for 14 years, endured two deployments and is married to an active serviceman.
"Military service, represents the ultimate sacrifice, as service people daily place their life on the line for their country, leaving their families and loved ones behind for months at a time," said Sarah Van Huizum, Partners In Beauty president. "Facing financial and emotional hardships, especially during wartime, the average military family is not living the American Dream they help to support. As the mission of Partners in Beauty, is assist our members their best by honoring their unique individualism and beauty, it seemed natural to honor these heros as their sacrifices for our freedoms are the ultimate acts of inner beauty."
The transformations began in early November of 2004. First Lori received a gleaming smile through teeth whitening and veneers by the dental duo, Drs. Gray and Williams. Next, she achieved perfect vision with laser vision correction by Dr. Michael Gordon of Gordon Binder Vision Weiss Institute. Then San Diego magazine voted "Best Doctor," Dr. Dennis Bucko helped Lori restore her figure which had been affected by childbirth. In one short surgical session, he performed a tummy tuck, liposuction, and breast enhancement totally re-sculpting her body.

According to Brown whose gone from a size 12 to a size four, and is ecstatic, "everything is now back where it should be!" Lori lost a total of 25 pounds with assistance from Cindy Whitmarsh of Ultrafit, revitalized her complexion with the most advanced medical skin care treatments including Restylane lip enhancement and the Belladerma Peel at Dr. Bucko’s Belladerma Medical Center.

Silver received a breast augmentation, facelift, nose reshaping, forehead lift and skin rejuvenation with Dr. Bucko. She received veneers from Drs. Gray and Williams. Both women underwent hair styling with Salon Radius, wardrobe and make-up assistance with Saks Fifth Avenue, and enjoyed an Ultimate Spa day at the beautiful Estancia La Jolla Hotel and Spa. "It’s been a dream come true," said Silver. "As a active duty woman in the military, my appearance could never be a priority, yet I always still wanted to feel pretty. Now, I love the way my outside appearance matches the way I feel on the inside. I look 15 years younger!"
